Dear Friends,
No Kidding, Me Too! extends its sympathies to the students, faculty, friends and
families of Northern Illinois University. This is another in the all-too-numerous
tragedies that have recently impacted our country. We are shocked, saddened and
offer our deepest condolences to those directly affected.
Our mission is to remove the stigma from mental illness so that those who are
suffering from it can step out of the closet, seek treatment and become better
members of society. Although unclear at this time, it appears that mental
illness played a role in this shooting as it has in others. We grieve with the
affected family members and at the same time ask not for a reformation of the
system, but a sea change in the mentality towards those with mental illness.
Love them, accept them, treat them as you would anyone, and most of all be
willing to discuss mental illness the same way you discuss a broken leg: with
the understanding that seeking treatment from professionals is highly
recommended and encouraged by everyone.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims. We
wish them our best in this very difficult time.
